Developing a Strategic Plan

Know your goals. Before jumping in, it's important to know your top family engagement goals.

Map out the communication challenges your community faces.
Pick two or three to be your goals for the school year. These should be those challenges that are extremely important for engaging the community, but you haven't yet had success in the past.

Identify your resources . List the support services that your community needs, and who on your team can provide those services. You'll get a clear picture of what needs are being met and what is not. You'll also see where your organizational strength is, and how they can apply to your communication goals.

Know your communication priorities . Once you've laid out your goals, and aligned an overarching strategy, you can get down to the nitty-gritty. This is where you can define who on your team communicates what, how, and when. With ReachWell, KCKPS assigned departments and staff dedicated days of the week they could communicate, based on the communication priority. The plan incorporates escalation paths for unplanned communication.
