Improving the Education of Migratory Children
Colorado Migrant Education Program joins ReachWell to connect with Colorado’s five Migrant Education regions across the state, as well as with students and their families.
ReachWell is excited to announce the Colorado Migrant Education Program (MEP) will now be using ReachWell to connect with Colorado’s five Migrant Education regions across the state, as well as with students and their families. The Office of Migrant Education at the Colorado Department of Education Migrant Education Program, federally funded under Title I, Part C of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), provides supplemental support to eligible migrant children and youth.
The
US Department of Education Migrant Education Program goal is to ensure that all migratory children reach challenging academic standards and graduate with a high school diploma (or complete a HSED) that prepares them for responsible citizenship, further learning, and productive employment.
National goals for this program are:
- Support high-quality and comprehensive educational programs and services for during the school year and, as applicable, during summer or intersession periods, that address the unique educational needs of migratory children.
- Ensure that migratory children who move among the States are not penalized in any manner by disparities among the States in curriculum, graduation requirements, and challenging State academic standards.
- Ensure that migratory children receive full and appropriate opportunities to meet the same challenging State academic content and student academic achievement standards that all children are expected to meet.
- Help migratory children overcome educational disruption, cultural and language barriers, social isolation, various health-related problems, and other factors that inhibit the ability of such children to do well in school.
- Ensure that migratory children benefit from State and local systemic reforms.
Overcoming hurdles, like language translation and literacy, income and mobility, tech-literacy and documentation status, often stand in the way of achieving these goals, as well as the health and wellbeing of migratory children. “ReachWell was created to ensure everyone has access to vital academic and social assistance information, including migratory children and their families. We are proud that ReachWell has been chosen by MEP to streamline and simplify communications, while improving accessibility and inclusiveness for migratory children across Colorado,” said Zuben Bastani, CEO & Founder of ReachWell. “We look forward to playing a critical role in improving outcomes for students throughout the state.”
